This ride will take most every rider into undiscovered territory. Little Goose Dam is the target and it’s location is deep in SE Washington on the Snake River.(click on the yellow sign for map) This is the familiar get of out of town routine and goes East on I-84 to Umatilla and Hwy 730. Hwy 730 follows the Columbia as you head north and is VERY refreshing. You will feel the cool breeze coming at you right off the river! Natural air conditioning.
As you climb out of the river basin you will be entering the High Palouse of Eastern Washington. This area is world famous for it’s wheat crop and you’ll be riding for miles through amber waves of grain. In
the Palouse there is almost NO traffic and with decent road conditions that are present a rider can test his or her limits in relative safety. Remember, all of this is at your own risk! This is, after all, a self guided tour, which means that if you have any problems - it’s YOUR fault! Have fun, but be careful…
When you reach Lyons Ferry you will see a couple of really beautiful bridges, a good photo-op. Now you are not too far from the dam. Little Goose Dam was completed in 1970 is one of my favorite dams to look at. The road to the dam is a great little motorcycle road so have fun.
After visiting the dam go into the little town of Starbuck and consider taking a break with lunch or dinner at Huwe’s Cafe. Great hand made milkshakes and awesome burgers await you in this oasis out in the middle of nowhere! With 290 miles under your belt you deserve it!
